Innovative power-barge solution
The BlueBARGE Consortium aims to develop an optimal power barge solution for supplying electrical power offshore. Aligned with EU and IMO emission reduction goals, it targets commercialization by 2030. Project partners will collaborate on containerized green energy supply modules, addressing integration challenges and regulatory compliance. The initiative explores technical alternatives to support the maritime industry’s transition toward electrification and decarbonization. Different alternatives will be considered as containerized power supply modules in a variety of configurations. Battery modules will serve as basis due to their high energy efficiency and readiness level, and other considered modules including hydrogen fuel cells and hydrogen generators.
BlueBARGE’s mission is to develop a versatile power-barge solution to provide offshore electricity to moored and anchored vessels, support ports without OPS systems, and aid the National grid during outages. It aims to support the maritime industry's shift towards electrification and decarbonization. It will employ a modular, scalable, adaptable, and flexible design approach to facilitate commercialization by 2030. It will feature containerized power supply modules, primarily based on high-efficiency battery modules, and may include hydrogen fuel cells and generators.
