The State Enterprise Lithuanian Inland Waterways Authority
The State Enterprise Lithuanian Inland Waterways Authority (hereinafter – the LIWA) is the administrator of the inland waterways of national importance. The LIWA administers and operates the inland waterways of national importance of the Republic of Lithuania, oversees and performs their maintenance, creates appropriate conditions for navigation in the inland waterways of national importance under the programme of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania.
The main activities of the LIWA
- Marking fairway of the inland waterways of national importance, its cleaning works, river bed regulation with hydraulic engineering constructions (rip-raps) aiming to form the fairway of definite parameters.
- Performance of hydrographic works, mapping hydrographic network of the Republic of Lithuania.
- Service and maintenance of the infrastructure of the inland waterways.
- Shipbuilding and repair.
The property of the LIWA belongs to the state, transferred and acquired property the LIWA administers, uses, and disposes by constructive trust. For the activities performance the LIWA has the equipment (dredger, excavators, motor vessels, barges, floating crane, etc.), and infrastructure (2 ports, 5 wharfs, base of vessels maintenance).
