DFDS

DFDS

The DFDS Group has enabled trade and travel since 1866 and has always been part and parcel of Europe’s economic growth and connecting people. At the end of 2023, the DFDS Group employed 13,200 people, was present in 66 logistics locations across Europe (including Türkiye). Through its long history, DFDS has brought new solutions to market, strengthening European competitiveness with positive socio-economic impacts. At the beginning of 2024, routes between Spain and Morocco were added following the acquisition of FRS Iberia/Maroc. Throughout its pan-European network, DFDS runs several short sea freight and passenger routes in basically all EU waters, namely the North Sea, the Baltic Sea, the English Channel, and the Mediterranean Sea.

DFDS en route to net-zero GHG emissions by 2050

DFDS initiated its first climate action Plan in 2019 and updated its climate ambitions in 2023 to a decarbonisation pathway strategy to reach company-wide net-zero GHG emissions by 2050. In addition, for vessel operations, DFDS aims to reduce TtW CO2 intensity by 45% by 2030 compared to 2008, and for terminals and land-based activities, DFDS aims to reduce its WtW GHG intensity by 75% compared to 2022. As a large European transport and logistics company, with a commitment to achieving net-zero GHG emissions by 2050, DFDS is faced with the challenge of decarbonising its fleet and other modes of transport without compromising the free movement of goods and the competitiveness of the European Single Market. RoRo vessels are the most common vessel type in the DFDS network and responsible for the largest share of our ferry GHG emissions (around 90 percent of DFDS’s Scope 1 emissions).
