Centrale Nantes is a french engineering school and public research institute, recognized as one of the European leaders in research and innovation in ocean engineering and mechanical engineering (Centrale Nantes is ranked in the Top 200 for Mechanical Engineering and 41st in Naval and Ocean Engineering in the thematic Shanghai rankings with Nantes University).
Furthermore, Centrale Nantes is hosting the CARGO - Cluster on trAjectoRies of shipping decarbOnization - research cluster.
Dedicated to maritime transport decarbonization, CARGO brings together around a hundred researchers from 12 laboratories in Nantes and Saint-Nazaire (west of France), with complementary disciplines (law, economy, geography and science engineering) and sound expertise in the field of maritime trade and energy transition.
CARGO scientists are involved in research projects such as alternative fuels and propulsion systems for ships, port logistics optimization, economic and legal frameworks to speed up the waterborne transport transition, etc.
