Innovative energy storage solutions for ships

New modular Electrical architecture and digital platforM to Optimise large battery systems on SHIPs

The Zero-emission Waterborne Transport (ZEWT) partnership in Europe aims to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 by providing sustainable solutions for all main types of waterborne transport by 2030. To achieve this objective, the EU-funded NEMOSHIP project will contribute new technological solutions. It will develop a modular and standardised battery energy storage system that can efficiently use a variety of storage units. A cloud-based digital platform will also be created that enables data-driven decision-making for optimal and safe utilisation.

The innovations will be demonstrated on a retrofitted hybrid offshore service vessel, a newly designed hybrid cruise vessel (liquefied natural gas/electric propulsion), and two fully-electric vessels (ferries and short-sea shipping) in a semi-virtual setting. NEMOSHIP will significantly contribute to achieving the ZEWT partnership’s objectives.
